Quote of the Month

There can be no other occupation like gardening in which, if you were to creep up behind someone at their work, you would find them smiling.

Wild Flower Walk and Organisc Farm Visit

On Tuesday 16th April fourteen members of the Club went to Sue and Pete Rodgers's organic farm in Lanjaron.

The temperatures were in the middle twenties which made the walk up the mountain (and down again) quite an ordeal for some and arduous for all.
The views and in-depth info on the herbs along the way was very informative and interesting and worth the effort.

Prior to the lunch Pete showed the group around his organic farm using innovative techniques for producing and protecting vegetables and herbs both for commercial and their own use.

The couple live entirely off-grid, employ an outside composting toilet for their guest helpers (Woofers) and recycled grey water using reed beds for use on the flower borders.

The reward was an excellent lunch, prepared by our host, in the shade, surrounded by their very pleasant garden.

Sue then gave a mini-workshop on how to make herbal, organic preparations.  Some of us chose to make a beeswax based hand cream and others an organic "shake and vac" to repel unwanted bugs.

This huerta is well worth a visit for the ideas and techniques used to live as eco-friendly as possible.
