Quote of the Month

There can be no other occupation like gardening in which, if you were to creep up behind someone at their work, you would find them smiling.

Celebration of Chester's life

Remy asked Carol Starr to say something on behalf of the Club at the service in Competa on Monday evening to celebrate Chester's life.

Somehow it got missed off the programme, and as so many of the Club members attended the celebration she has asked that her speech is added to the blog.

Celebration of Chester's Life

I know I can speak on behalf of all the members of the Axarquia Garden Club when I say that it was with immense shock and sorrow that we heard the terrible news. It was almost unthinkable that this happened after he had recently fought and overcome cancer.

Chester was one of the first to join our fledgling Club and I still fondly remember our small, early membership of 4 or 5 being invited to visit his lovely garden. He showed us around with a modest but justifiable pride. Like most passionate gardeners, he had an almost fatherly concern for a sick plant. Not only a gardener he was not a bad cook either. After the garden tour, he'd made us the most wonderful home-made lemon tart you've ever tasted!

Chester rarely missed a Club meeting and was always keen to listen to the advice and experience of others, busily taking notes and pleased to share his knowledge with us. He was always greatly respected and we were honoured to have had him as a member. No future Club meetings will eve be quite the same without him.

Chester made a deep and lasting impression on all of us. It was impossible to know him and not be impressed by the warmth of his personality.
